Wedding Planning Checklist for Every Bride-to-be

By Ruth Williams

When it comes to planning your wedding there is nothing more exciting. Hopefully you will only be doing it once! But amongst deciding on a venue, a dress, the guest-list, and the catering; stress takes over and the joy and romance is lost.

So if you're a bride in need of a break or a husband in need of help, you're in luck. We have put together this checklist to help you think clearly and plan strategically!

The Venue

The venue is obviously an important part of your wedding day, in terms of the setting it will create and also the outlay. When choosing your venue there are some fundamental considerations to take into account:

* Will you hold the ceremony and reception in one place? * If the ceremony is to take place elsewhere, how are guests going to move between locations? * Have you spoken to the venue about time scales and capacity levels? * What is the situation with regards to decorating the venue? Are you permitted or do you have to go with their scheme?* Are there suitable locations to have the wedding photos taken?

The wedding venue can make or break the day, so make sure you find out as much information as possible before making a commitment. Exploring every possibility early on will help avoid stress further down the line.

Choosing the Wedding Dress

Deciding on a dress perhaps comes joint first with choosing the wedding venue. There is more to wedding dress shopping than finding the dress that you look a million dollars in.

* Does your budget go as far as having alteration made if necessary? * If you are having a wedding abroad or further afield consider how well the dress is going to travel. Have you made these arrangements? * It's not just the dress you need to choose, there are also accessories such as the veil, jewellery, and possibly a bolero. * Think about the temperature of the time of year or where you are getting married. * Consider your footwear. It needs to be comfortable and stylish as it will be a long day and you will surely be wanting to dance at the end of it.

Start with the Wow factor you want to achieve, as this is the most memorable and most photographed aspect of the day. By factoring in time and money for all these elements, you can avoid unnecessary stress a few days before the big day.

The Guest List

When you get married, you want to share your special day with your friends and family. But finalising the guest list is one part of wedding planning that causes a huge amount of stress. These pointers may help you on your way:

* The venue is the most limiting factor as to how many guests you can invite. * The cost per head for food can be higher than you might think. If you know your budget you will be able to assess how many people you can invite if you know a figure for the catering. * Are you planning an intimate or extravagant wedding? * Can you compromise on the guests to leave off the list?

It is hard to narrow down the guest list, especially if it may cause offence. At the end of the day though, it's you and your partner's day so do what makes you happy.

Planning a wedding doesn't have to be a stressful time. If you're feeling stressed, remember that this is a celebration and a happy event so don't let it get to you. Remember to delegate, it is easy to take it all upon yourselves to organise but this can be made more enjoyable if the jobs are shared around.
