Adding To The Festivities Are Good Wedding Speeches

By Cecilia Burke

It's a fact that every wedding must have wedding speeches. The first to do the honors is the bride's father, then the groom and followed by his Best Man. The Maid of Honor may even be asked to speak a few words at some weddings. The guests wait for the speeches to end before heading for the bar and joining the celebrations.

It's not like wedding speeches are not fun at all. Because they are. Life and zest can be added to wedding celebrations because of good speeches. These speeches are few and far between which is unfortunate. Most of the speeches tend to fall flat because the speaker did not make adequate preparations.

Delivered as a ritual are most wedding speeches. The bride's father is too busy making arrangements and has not spent sufficient time reciting his lines; the groom is too overwhelmed by the occasion to stand up and deliver; and the Best Man is busy enjoying the attention to worry about the speech.

So how do you solve this? Do you think the guests should just suffer the speeches in silence during every wedding? Or should the speakers realize the importance of the occasion and do justice to the responsibility entrusted to them?

The speakers clearly must rise to the occasion. They must put in the same effort in their speeches as the families of the bride and groom have done in making the wedding arrangements. They need to remember that they were not asked to deliver an extempore speech or an impromptu. They had enough time and warning to get their speeches ready.

Of course, the best wedding speeches are the ones that are delivered at the spur of the moment. However, those who are gifted will give these speeches. The rest will have to work hard in preparing these speeches. They must spend some time putting their thought on paper, ideally at least a month before the big day.

They should not look for smart one-liners to liven their speeches but instead, they should focus on talking about the groom, the bride, and the family and friends. The guests who have taken time off their busy schedules to be present for the wedding should also be mentioned in the speech. Rehearsing the wedding speeches is always a good idea. Doing this will help eliminate unnecessary words or sentences. The speaker will also avoid stuttering in order to locate a word or sentence. His thoughts will then flow smoothly. They will be suited for the occasion which is very important and this will add to the overall joy and festivities.
