The Traditional Celebration Before Marriage Includes The Vegas Bachelor Party

By Cheri Knowles

The so-called traditional last night as a free man before marriage is an enigma. Despite the Hollywood, the actual event is rare and more impressive to talk about than to experience. The holy grail of such events would have to be the Vegas bachelor party.

The decision of a friend to commit to a matrimonial relationship may be befuddling, but it is rarely surprising. The symptoms will have been evident for some time, and the conclusion of such commitment is usually a foregone conclusion. What remains is to celebrate the passing of an era.

The idea of the friends involved is to create a fantastic one night event marking the last night of so-called freedom from a most serious interpersonal commitment. The reality of such an event is rife with risk, real or imagined, and is intended as a celebration of friendship. The notion that it mark a significant change in relationships is imminently clear but unspoken.

The real goal is to create a singularly memorable evening, focusing on the clearly significant step from a man unattached to one truly committed. This allows for embarrassing innuendo and taunting. Almost all of this fun is at the expense of their friend, and the greater his chagrin the more enjoyable the evening, yet a modicum of discipline is critical to success.

The daunting task is to create as undisciplined an event as possible while maintaining a civilized boundary. Despite crude film depictions, celebrating the last nights of being single need not threaten nuptials. Real friends want their friend to simply be reminded of the lascivious opportunities he forsakes.

Considering the goal, then Nevada is a natural destination of choice, with sin city the pinnacle. Here the idea of the celebration is a central theme, and help in planning is easily found. A Vegas bachelor party may be the easiest planning event of a lifetime.
