Those Interested In Growing Orchids Indoors

By Kelli Evans

Having orchids Calgary in your home can ad a touch of elegance and beauty. The beauty of these plants is without question yet growing them for most proves frustrating. Deciding to grow these plants indoors will offer its own challenges that any grower should be aware of before they begin.

The best place to begin is by deciding on the type of species you will grow. There are many thousands of different species to choose from so finding one will be easy if not a little confusing. When deciding however there is one consideration that can make your choice a little easier.

Understanding your current skill level is crucial to knowing what kind of Orchid you should choose. For beginners you want to stick with some of the easier ones and go from there. Species such as a Moth Orchid or The Lady's Slipper are a perfect choice. They are not only forgiving but are ideal for those looking for beauty and an easier growing plant.

Lights are important to plants. Whether the light source is external and is provided by the sun or it happens to be indoors makes no difference. What is most important is how much light your plants will be exposed to. Florescent lights allow the grower total control over the amount of light the plant receives.

Since these are plants that thrive in high humidity you need to replicate that. Spritz with water often but when doing this be aware that you need to provide some form of air movement. Stagnant wet air will not be good for the plant. High humidity with air movement will work best.

Deciding on growing orchids Calgary can be easier than most people imagine. Start by choosing the right species to match your current skill level. Light and moisture should be decided on and controlled for best results.
