If you are the Maid of Honor you are most likely going to be the one that is hosting the bridal shower. There is only one thing you need to remember. Everything and I mean everything is about the bride. That means the games, the food and everything else should be exactly what she likes and not what you like.
A typical bridal shower is not like a bachelorette party. Personal items may be given, although this typically may not be the time to bring lingerie or things of that nature. Bring gifts that will be useful to her as a new wife, and homemaker. good ideas may be cooking supplies, a cleaning kit, quilts, recipe books, decorations for her new home, or a money tree to help the couple get started.
You will also want to have a couple games at the bridal shower. It is important to get your guests interacting and socializing. Most likely not all of the guests will know each other. So games are a great way of breaking the ice and getting people to talk. Games that are centered around the bride are always a good idea as she will be the common thread among all the guests.
As a general rule of thumb you will not want to invite a guest to the bridal shower if they are not being invited to the wedding itself. A bridal shower is usually reserved to those family and friends that are closest to the bride. So inviting someone to come to the shower that is not invited to the wedding is tacky and makes it looks like you are just trying to get more gifts.
Finally, if the bride is anything like me the food is the most important part. A party without good food isn't a party at all. It should be themed and pretty. Set mints, candies, and nuts around in pretty dishes. This is not the time to make a potluck meal. Finger foods are perfect for this event. Remember their will be many different people so try to have a variety of foods available. Of course bride comes first ask her what foods she may want. Whither it's a sit down dinner or just some finger foods, or little sandwiches she may have an opinion.
As long as you keep the first rule in mind that a bridal shower is all about the bride everything should go well.
