What to do on the weekend of the wedding

By Jackrufusso Canne

It is interesting that most weddings are getting larger recently, the span of days that they take has grown from a single day to almost the entire weekend.

The main reason for this expansion is that family members are getting to be farther apart geographically, some live in different places, cities and even continents. That can indicate that there can be many wedding guests who are from out of town. Since these guests have made a long journey it makes sense to make full use of the opportunity by celebrating and enjoying the wedding activities.

To keep everyone busy and entertained it is possible to plan a number of events that you can engage in. Some brides prefer a dress-up dinner but many like to replace it instead with a casual barbecue dinner or picnic. When the wedding location is in close proximity to a the beach then it is possible to enjoy a day at the lake, filled with exciting activities such as swimming races and beach volleyball.

Another common wedding activity is to have a scavenger hunt. Prior to the wedding weekend, draw up a list of things belonging to the bride and groom, and wedding guests placed into two teams. The list would be about exciting and fun things of the bride or groom ". It is also a good idea to adapt the game to the location of the ceremony and the mood of the wedding guests.

You can even offer interesting rewards for the team or group that comes out ahead in the scavenger hunt. Some examples are movie tickets or gourmet food or cookie baskets. It might seem an obvious choice to subdivide the guests into groups who know or are related to the bride vs groups from the groom's family, but it might be a little more fun to create teams of kids vs adults, or husbands vs wives.

A fun thing to do which a lot of the guests would enjoy, particularly wedding guests who who traveled from afar, is to go on a limousine sightseeing tour of your town. This is a great option for family and for members of the wedding party. In bigger cities such as Toronto, you will find Toronto limo companies who have special sightseeing tours for wedding members. It is a nice jesture to say thank you to your wedding guests who came from across the world to attend your wedding.

Typically this type of weekend games are not all that expensive, but can provide big bang for the little buck. If the wedding weekend guests will mostly be family, they would prefer a home movie-viewing event from the bride or groom. Typically, in these family photos and documentaries, it is sometimes hard to distinguish the groom from the bride, especially in baby photos, and the families from each other. It is however, a great cruise down memory lane, and a small look at what lies behind before embarking on the future.
